My computer recognizes my ipod as a camera not an ipod touch?

i have a ipod touch 4th generation and myy desktop computer crashed and i had no way of downloading songs to my ipod. so i downloaded itunes to my laptop and pulgged in my ipod to my laptop. it says that its a digital camera not a ipod. i tried uninstalling the drivers and updating them, but nothing works. i really dont want to reset my ipod cause all of my music will be lost. itunes recognizes its as a ipod. i hav to find some way to open the music folder on my ipod. if you kno how to solve the problem please please help me. i would greatly appreciate it.
